From The Movie :
Whisper of the Heart -English Title-
耳をすませば ("If you listen closely") -Japanese Title-
Composer : Yuji Nomi
Author : Hayao Miyazaki
Singer : Youko Honna
Original publication : Studio Ghibli
Year : 1995
Throughout the film, Shizuku (main character from the movie) creates translations of John Denver's song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" into Japanese for her school's chorus club. It shows that Shizuku sings "Take Me Home, Country Roads" with the performance from Seiji Amasawa, Shiro Nishi and some other people.
The original "Take Me Home, Country Roads" (or simply "Country Roads") is a song written by John Denver, Taffy Nivert, and Bill Danoff and initially recorded by John Denver. The single itself released on April 12th, 1971 (April 12th is my birthday!! LOL).
It became one of John Denver's most popular and world-wide beloved songs, and is still very popular around the world, considered to be John Denver's own signature song. It also has a prominent status as an iconic symbol of West Virginia.
You can see the lyrics of the original "Country Roads" here.

Country road
If you follow this road onward
It continues to that town, I think
Country road
By myself, without fear
I dreamed of going
Shutting up my loneliness
Protecting my strong self, I'll go
Country road
If you follow this road onward
It continues to that town, I think
Country road
Getting tired of walking then standing still
Floating closer, my hometown
The uphill road winding around the hill
I'm scolding that me
Country road
If you follow this road onward
It continues to that town, I think
Country road
No matter what discouraging times there are
I'll never show any tears
Without heart, I'll hurry and set myself free
In order to get rid of my memories
Country road
Even though this road continues to my hometown
I just can't go, I can't go
Country road
Country road
Tomorrow, the me I always am
I want to go back, but I can't, farewell
Country road
